John Oster made the perfect start scoring for Palace on 11 minutes before one of those young starlets, 18-year-old Sean Scannell, doubled the lead two minutes later.
Dele Adebola pulled one back just before half-time, to give City hope but Palace took command in the second half when Craig Beattie restored the two-goal lead on 65 minutes, centre half Jose Fonte made it four but Nicky Maynard managed to grab a consolation goal.
