Palace legend Ian Wright believes the club must begin to spend money if they will ever be the force they once were again.
The former footballer was in Croydon on Friday signing copies of his new book, Fitter Families, which encourages households to take simple steps together to reduce the obesity epidemic spreading through the UK.
Ian still holds Palace close to his heart, he even joked he would love to manage them in 10 years, but feared the good times Palace had when he was there my never be repeated.
"They are in a healthy position in the middle of the table right now," he said.
"Of course you want those great times when we used to play me and Brighty and Geoff and Andy Gray and everybody and you are wondering when that is going to come along because what is happening is we are not getting the south London influx of hungry players that you need to get.
"They have got a good manager in respect of Neil Warnock so I can see good times ahead but it really does depend because everybody is strengthening in the Championship and the lower regions of the Premiership, money is key."
Wright still Palace's post war top scorer almost saw his record go to Clinton Morrison, but he fell 4 short of Wrights 117.
"Near is not close enough," smiled Wright.
"If you tell me Thierry Henry got near I would be happy.
"It was unfortunate for Clinton because he has been a great servant for Palace as well.
"To be honest I would have liked him to have done it as they gave me player of the century and I don`t think you can beat that."
