Jordan stumps up £5mil to save Palace

Palace chairman Simon Jordan has stated he has pumped £5million into Crystal Palace this summer to keep it afloat.

And if he hadnt done that then Palace would of been in serious trouble.

He has spelt out the reality of the problems Palace would face if he did not continue to inject his own money into the SE25 outfit.

Jordan told the SLP: "I`ve been sitting in situ at Palace for nine years - most of that outside the Premier League - and this summer has been the most brutal.

"You can`t get help from the banks because there are no traditional forms of finance available in football at the moment. Either I write massive cheques or Crystal Palace struggles. So I write out massive cheques.

"The last 12 weeks have been the most miserable I`ve ever had in my adult life. And the last six months have probably been the most difficult since I`ve owned the club. I`ve fought hard to keep Crystal Palace going and put my money where my mouth is.

"The players will be paid and I don`t feel shame or indignity. I`ve stood there when most people would have stepped aside and let it go down.

"Most people would have gone - like at Southampton where they refused to keep shelling out.

"I`ve pumped a significant amount of my personal wealth in at a time when everyone is under pressure because of the economic crisis.

"My concern is the club going forward. Players have to be paid - whether I agree with their moral scruples or contribution to the football club - and they most certainly will be.'
