Gardner: Defence And Understanding

Anthony Gardner believes that the Eagles' defence is showing signs of developing a real understanding during games now, and this can only benefit us as we head towards the end of the season.

Speaking to the Croydon Advertiser the Palace defender said that prior to Reading, which was seriously a bad day at the office, he believes the defenders at the club are striking up a proper rapport and almost telepathic like understanding.

'Having a settled defence can definitely benefit the team, it's all down to understanding and getting to know the players you are playing with.'

Gardner is sure this will give us a huge boost, as long as we don't have too many 'Reading' days, as we enter into the final months of the season.

'We'd like a couple more points but we are where we are. The consistency is there now but we have to fight.'

Dougie Freedman has already said he would like to keep Gardner on next season given his loan and Hull contract expire in the summer, but Gardner realises that there are more important things at the moment to deal with, and any issues on that front can be sorted out once we are safe.

'The club is fighting for survival, I see my situation as secondary to what's going on. The summer is not far away and it's nice to know the club want me to stay.'
