CPFC2010 Statement On Fan Behaviour

The club have recently had what they describe as a very constructive and positive meeting with the Police, and following that, have released the following statement.

Palace co owners Steve Parish and Stephen Browett, CEO Phil Alexander and Stadium Manager Kevin Corner met with the Police to discuss a number of issues that have arisen this season, most recently the bottle throwing incident away at QPR.

The statement points out that everything discussed is from the standpoint of Health and Safety and ensuring that nobody is injured during games, and initially points out that behaviour within the stadium in the responsibility of the club and that the Police presence costs valuable money that could otherwise be used on the Academy, or for transfer fees, so it appeals to fans to realise this and keep Selhurst trouble free as it is in the clubs' best financial interests to keep a Police presence at a minimum.

The club also wish to point out that Stewards are doing their jobs in line with instructions and they should not be abused when asking fans to respect the rules the club employ.

The main topics discussed in the meeting were:

Block B (Holmesdale)

The number of fans who migrate to the block during games has been identified as a problem, and if it isn't rectified then the club will have to look at closing at least part of the stand.

'One person per seat - we cannot have more people than seats.

Climbing on seats - we cannot allow people to climb on, or jump up and down on seats. 16 seats were broken in Block B at the last home game.

Linking of arms and swaying from side to side - this has been identified as dangerous by safety experts and could lead to injuries.

Moving out of the seated area - we must by law keep the gangways and the area in front of the seats clear.'

Block V (Arthur Wait)

The club demonstrated during the meeting that no trouble has occurred in this stand despite being closest to the away fan contingent. Therefore season ticket holders in the block will now be able to purchase tickets for guests.

The caveat is that season ticket holders take responsibility for the actions of their guests and if trouble does occur, then punishments are likely to affect the season ticket holder aswell.

This move will be introduced for the Barnsley and Scunny game, and will be reassessed for permanent introduction next season.

Crowd Behaviour Overall

The club received a warning from the FA as a result of the objects thrown v Watford (home) and the smoke bomb ignited v Coventry (away). The FA have again been in contact following QPR.

Anyone identified by CCTV will be banned by CPFC.

The simply cannot have a repeat of this and urge all real Palace fans to support us. An eleven year Palace supporter was hit on the back of the head by one of the bottles thrown from behind her and this is totally unacceptable and must not happen again.
