An Interview With A Leicester Fan

An Interview With A Leicester Fan

Another away game, another search and opportunity for 3 points, so we spoke to Vital Leicester in advance of tonight's clash.

With thanks to JBFox.

1) Is the season going as you expected and what has been the highlight and lowlight so far?

If any Leicester fan told you this is how they expected our season to run they'd be lying! It's been a bit topsy-turvy in truth. There was always going to be some doubts when Nigel Pearson left for Hull, and sure enough it all began horribly when we were bottom after nine.

But then the owners came in, Sven followed, the money started to flow out and we've been able to get the likes of Yakubu on board. At one point we were looking almost play-off certainties after a run of eight wins in nine, but then it quickly turned a little sour when we lost to a lot of the teams around us. I think we've left it far too late for the top six now.

2) Any transfer window deals that we might not be aware of, but should look out for?

I'm sure you're all aware of Fulham's Diomansy Kamara coming in on loan, and you should be even more so if he plays like he did on Saturday! He was absolutely everywhere. Nothing on the quiet side in terms of our business though - that doesn't seem to be our way this season...

3) Where do you see your current weaknesses? Any clues will be greatly welcomed :-)

We've been dodgy at the back all season long, which is baffling when you look at our squad on paper. We sorted everything out on Saturday to completely shut out Burnley, and I'd like to think with the same side we can do it again against yourselves. Kyle Naughton has probably been our most consistent player all season and he may be back for the game, but his replacement Miguel Vitor came in and did a cracking job there.

4) Who will be your key dangerman?

We do have a pretty lethal front line on their day. The aforementioned Kamara looked like a man on a mission at the weekend, hitting the opener before winning the penalty amongst other key contributions.

Yakubu needs no introduction - he may look lazy at times, but the man has class in abundance. Meanwhile, possibly the most underrated man of our squad is Paul Gallagher to complete the trio. His creativity is vital for us, and when he can score goals like he did against Burnley, he proves just what a useful player he is to us.

And if you need more reminders of Gallagher's ability, check out a certain strike at the Walkers last year - at this point you might remember who it was against...

5) Do you believe Palace should be worried about our position in the table, or do you feel we will pull up the table and survive?

I really do hope that Palace stay up.

They've always been a club I personally like for a variety of reasons, and it never fails to provide a decent away trip. I'd like to think you won't cut it as fine as last season, but I think it's going to go down to the wire. Scunthorpe showed that anybody can get a result against anybody in this division, so nothing is ever certain.

You have a decent five-point cushion on the chasing pack which could prove vital when it all comes down to it, here's to hoping it stays that way from tomorrow onwards!

6) What are your thoughts on Dougie Freedman?

In brutal honesty, I couldn't possibly comment. Which I suppose is a good thing, because it means I haven't noticed him in the media a great deal. I much prefer a manager who sticks to his job and doesn't crave the attention from the press (no names mentioned eh Holloway). I think it will probably be better to judge him at the end of the season when all is said and done.

7) If you could take one of our players, who would it be and why?

Darren Ambrose has been a consistent performer at this level for some time now, you can always see his quality whenever you play against him. You only have to look at some of the goals he's scored in the last two seasons to see it. Neil Danns always looks a useful player too when I've seen him.

8) Who do you see as our main threat?

It doesn't look like the kid Zaha is in Freedman's starting lineup too often, which is nice because he was superb against us on the opening day. With that said, I'd be hard pushed to look past Ambrose again.

9) Where would you say our current weaknesses are in terms of how you will approach the match?

Any side fighting for their lives at the bottom has their weaknesses - far too many I'm sure for your liking! I think the obvious weakness in the Palace ranks is that abysmal away record. Just one win away from home all season is terrible, so I'd like to think we'll keep it that way.

10) Finally, a prediction please...

We need maximum points from all our games to stand a chance of the top six, and I think we'll get three more tonight after Saturday's confident showing. Leicester 3-0 Palace. But I genuinely wish you all the best for the remainder of the season, I hope you do avoid the drop.
