Scannell Loss Is A Major Blow

Dougie Freedman described Sean Scannell's straight red card against Scunthorpe as the most disappointing element of the loss.

In numerous interviews since the match the gaffer has talked about players not sticking to the plan and getting carried away with the occasion, saying too many of them appeared to be trying to win the match on their own and neglecting the team work ethic that has seen us proud of late, but the wayward Scannell tackle kind of sums up how the players were probably over enthusiastic about getting the 3 points that would've effectively seen us safe.

Speaking to News Shopper Freedman admits his disappointment at the red card is mainly because Scannell was entering a very fine vein of form and now he is going to be out for the next 3 matches.

'His ban will be 3 games, it's a major blow. Results we can handle, injuries are injuries, but to lose a player is difficult to take.'

With Palace now having one of the worst disciplinary records in the league, Freedman has however moved quickly to state he doesn't believe discipline is an issue, nor are we a dirty club.

'It's not a case of ill-discipline but an eagerness to do well for the club and win the game.'
