Dougie's Decree: Always Confident Of Survival

Dougie Freedman has stated that he was always confident that Palace would avoid the drop this season, but he was even more delighted yesterday because of the impact of Sekajja.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC Freedman was pleased to see another Academy Graduate start to make a name for himself in the first team.

'Ibra Sekajja fully deserved his opportunity. He's done well and to score the goal that clinched our place in the Championship for next season was special. I'm not sure about his goal celebration, I couldn't have celebrated a goal like that!'

Whilst Freedman believes a draw was a fair result on the day, he thinks we could've taken all 3 points and he explains why he was so confident for our chances of survival.

'If you measure games in terms of possession and chances created, we had more than enough of both to have won the game. I can say hands on heart I was confident when I took over that we would stay up. I knew we had the ability in the dressing room but my next job is to raise the bar and keep raising it and take the club as far as it can go.'

On the subject of the future, Freedman continued to add.

'Credit to the lads for the way they turned things around, but standards have to be a lot higher at a club like ours. '

Part of that will be the continued focus on improving the Academy and bringing players through as the club aren't in the position to throw millions around after players - we need to continue producing our own talent.
