'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Freedman Hoping To Secure Free Agents

Dougie Freedman would be delighted to secure the long term futures of Anthony Gardner and David Norris, but has concerns that their wage demands may be too high for the club to meet.

Discussing some future plans with the Croydon Advertiser the gaffer admitted he wants to keep Gardner and Norris at the club if he can.

'I think Anthony has done very well for us and he is someone I like but the financial side of the deal has to be looked at. Anthony is used to Premier League wages and I'm not sure if we can match that.'

Securing Gardner to the club would be a massive boost given the partnership he formed this season with Paddy McCarthy, and I'm sure if there's a way of making it happen Dougie will...but it times like this that our previous financial troubles could bite us.

David Norris is in the same boat for Dougie, especially with a number of clubs interested in his signature now he's out of contract.

'I tried in January, and I'd like to try again but he may be too much for us financially as well. He's a player I admire and I'd love to have him but I won't do anything that may damage the club further down the line.'

Whilst Dougie doesn't give a rating for Gardner, he does say our chances on Norris are probably about 10%.

There will be an element of talking down our financials in all of this, it just makes sense to get players and clubs to agree deals that are more favourable to us. How much is mind games though will remain to be seen, and probably won't be known until we kick off the first game of next season.
