'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Dougie's Decree: Excellent!

Dougie Freedman beamed like a kid at Christmas after he saw us continue our unbeaten run at the KC Stadium yesterday, proclaiming the performance as 'excellent'.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC the gaffer was delighted with almost every aspect of the game, but did say he wasn't getting carried away yet - despite it being the perfect start for us.

'The performance was excellent and we were resilient at the back. I can't remember too many clear cut chances from them. We're not getting carried away with our start, but we've got hungry young players, we play with a good intensity and you saw that with the goal. We had that attitude on Tuesday night and we had it again here.'

Freedman admits we did 'lock up shop' once we took the lead, but he believes it was the perfect way to approach this game.

'We did retreat to defend the goal, but it worked for us as we sucked them in a bit. Something we've got to work on is not sitting too deep, but it worked for us today.'

Horses for courses surely. There are always, and they will always be things that we can learn from, do differently and improve on, but we are playing with a little more freedom really and if the price to pay for that - and a great start to the campaign - is to park the bus ocassionally so be it.

Nobody wants a relegation battle again heading towards the end of the season, and from all angles - placing, confidence, financial - those 3 points could be very important.

We had the lead, we could afford to sit back, but I think we got the mix pretty much right. Working towards the counter and continuing to cause trouble whilst protecting the goal.
