'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Jonny Williams Wins Apprentice Of The Month

Not quite in the same category as 'You're Fired!', but Jonny Williams should be delighted to pick up his first Apprentice of the Month Award after breaking into the first team.

Being selected as September's Staring Apprentice, Williams now boasts his first Football Education Trophy and he received it from manager Dougie Freedman last night.

Not a bad start to the season for the 18 year old who has also been called up for the first time by his country.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC, Williams said of the honour.

'I'm really pleased to win this award. I'll keep working hard to try and get a regular position in the first team. I feel it's important to that I'm working hard both on and off the pitch with my football and my college work.'

Williams added that the Welsh call up was an amazing feeling and Gary Speed told him to just enjoy himself around the squad, but keep working hard to improve and that's something he definitely plans on doing.

Freedman added.

'It is fantastic for the young man who deserves everything he gets in life because his attitude to work is very good. He is on the right path to become a very successful player.'

LFE Regional Officer Gavin Willacy further added.

'Jonny has continued to work superbly on his BTEC Extended Diploma and remains on target to gain a Triple Distinction grade overall in addition to completing his NVQ and Coaching Award. As if that is not enough, Jonny is also a very polite and pleasant young man!'

There's more than one reason to be pleased with this award, from the club's point of view we are keeping all our youngsters grounded, we are educating them, and we are making efforts to educate them both socially as well as on the pitch.

You wonder if there's a number of Premiership footballers who may have gained from such efforts as they were breaking into the game.
