Dougie Plays Down Play Off Expectations

Dougie Freedman has played down expectations that Palace could make the play offs by saying we are a couple of players short of being genuine contenders.

Speaking to the South London Press Freedman said.

'We're a couple of players short of being genuine challengers. Going from a relegation threatened team to one that is going to get promotion the following season is just too much with the same group of players, aside from a couple of free transfers. My experience tells me we are one or two players short of getting in the top 6, and four or five away from automatic promotion.'

Dougie Freedman added that he didn't want the speculation to continue to mount because he felt it would be like pulling the wool over the players eyes and letting people pretend we are ready, when:

'I strongly believe we're not.'

I'd imagine the script behind the scenes may be a little bit different, but there's a lot of sense in what he's said.

As I've commented previously there's no way we should view missing out on the Play Offs as being a disappointment. We have made huge strides this season and we shouldn't forget that by getting carried away and wanting to jump the gun - even though it's difficult not to, and certainly would've been harder to resist had we picked up the points we should've done this year especially.
