'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Dougie Furious Over KG Injury

Dougie Freedman has pulled no punches following South Africa's decision to play Kagisho Dikgacoi in a friendly in which he sustained a hamstring injury.

Speaking to the South London Press Freedman revealed that KG could now be out injured for up to a month following the international friendly, and he was non too happy with the midfielder being selected.

'KG flew halfway around the world after the West Ham game for a meaningly friendly. I'd like an explanation from the people who arranged it, and if they explain that then I'd like them to explain why they shouldn't pay his wages while he is out. They sit back in their offices and show no consideration to players that have just come out of a period where they have played 12 games in January and February.'

Freedman is not alone in voicing his concern over international friendlies, especially when players return with injuries. It's one thing the likes of Manchester United dictating that a player will only play one half at best, but that's not a freedom a lot of clubs are allowed and it is always the clubs who suffer the consequences of the injury with the national team going blameless.

There are more fans of club football than international football, and it's about time the balance was redressed.

Competitive competitions are one thing, but for friendlies it should be the club who has the final say after discussions with the player.
