Scannell Wanted First Team Football - Freedman

Scannell Wanted First Team Football - Freedman

Dougie Freedman has said the deal taking Sean Scannell to Huddersfield was sanctioned because he couldn't guarantee Sean the pitch time he obviously wanted.

Speaking to the South London Press Freedman also said that the transfer funds would be reinvested as he plays in the market this summer.

'I've known Sean since the age of 12, I've played alongside him and coached him and he just feels he needs first team football, which I can't guarantee. It's best for everybody that he has moved on, we felt the bid was a healthy one and hopefully fans will see me strengthen the squad with that money.'

Co owner Steve Parish added on the transfer.

'The way we want to play next season means that Sean is not necessarily going to start and at the age of 21 he needs games. It's a fair deal all round.'

Parish added that whilst there aren't many clauses with the transfer, Palace will benefit from a sell on percentage in the future.

Interesting comments about the way we are going to play next season that would leave Scannell and his type of play in the cold?

But again very pleasing to see the club planning for the future if Sean continues to develop as many believe he will with a sell on percentage.

In 2-3 years time that could come in very handy depending on how he beds in. A fresh challenge, and new surroundings could just be the kick that Scannell needs to push on further - if he does it'll just be a shame it wasn't with us.
