18 year old Ross Fitzsimons has signed his first professional 1 year contract with Palace.
Yourlocalguardian carry quotes from the former Millwall and Arsenal schoolboy, who joined Palace as a fresh faced 18 year old.
'It was one of the most nervous things I have ever done waiting outside the manager's office. I was there for 10 minutes, but it felt like hours. He was really pleased for me and he was delighted to offer me my contract. I think the club have high hopes for me, so I need to work hard and wait for my chance.'
The youngster adds that next season he's looking for pitch time, and possibly a loan spell so he can get some real experience between the sticks, and adds the help and support he's received from Julian Speroni and Lewis Price has been invaluable to him.
'I work with Julian near enough every day, he's so helpful. If I have any problems or there is something I need to work on, he is the first guy I go to. He's so pleased to give me help and tips and Lewis Price is fantastic too and he helped me through my scholarship. I'm probably in the best place anyone would wish to be.'
Well Dougie's shown that when youngsters are ready he's not afraid to give them a crack in the first team. A solid loan would probably do him the world of good next term, as long as we can recall if required.
