Browett - Southampton Are Taking The Mick

Co-owner Steve Browett has blasted Southampton for taking the mick with their offer of compensation for Nathaniel Clyne.

It was initially hoped that a sensible fee could be agreed for our former right back, but it seems Southampton's offer of compensation falls way below our expected valuation of him.

Our co owner told cpfc.org.

'I don't know what the 'reported' compensation offer was for Clyney but I know what the real offer is and yes, Southampton are taking the mick. We think that we have developed one of Britain's finest young defenders and given him great experience. He's certainly got the ability to be a very good Premier League player and we will not be accepting their offer but going to tribunal. It's a no brainer for us because what they have offered is so low.'

Browett compares Clyne's move to that of John Bostock, where the club received £750,000 even though he had only played one league game, and he believes because of Clyne's experience the compensation package should match that, and they believe the tribunal will award more than Southampton are currently offering.

Shame really, Southampton are well known for developing players and selling them into the Premiership, £12m for Oxlade-Chamberlain after 27 league starts, £5m for Walcott after 13 league starts, so given Clyne has made 118 league starts, maybe Southampton should play the game fairly.
