Baxter Way Short In Dougie's Eyes

Baxter Way Short In Dougie's Eyes

Dougie Freedman has said he has no problems in saying that Jose Baxter is 'way short' of what he's after in terms of his current level of fitness.

Speaking to the Croydon Advertiser and after seeing the 20 year old in action for 45 minutes against Lewes, Freedman said.

'I don't mind hiding the fact that he's way short of what I'm after. It's an easy decision right now for me to make, but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt over the next two or three weeks. He might not have trained over the summer or got a knock from the end of last season, I don't really know the answer. He is improving, but I've told him he's got a long way to go in terms of standards I set.'

Quite surprising comments really after his performance and goal from midfield, but it's certainly a good way of challenging Baxter to really push on if he wants a move here.

'He wants to come and play where, he tells me, the manager is going to get the best out of him, so hopefully I can do that if he stays longer. Right now, it's a case of us getting to know each other, him getting fitter and him getting to the standard I'm after, then we'll look at it.'
