'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Dougie Issues Rallying Cry

Dougie Freedman has said the mindset of everybody connected with the club has to change if we are to push on further.

Speaking to yourlocalguardian Dougie decided to be brutally honest about the club holding itself back now after our previous financials worries, and he's called on everybody to start believing in the club again, and that this club should be playing at the top instead of permanently being the default underdog.

'I have always enjoyed managing Crystal Palace but it's frustrating that the mindset within the club has not changed to how I want it to be, and this relates to every single person associated with the club. There seems to be a mindset that we don't belong, that we're the poorer relation, and it exists in every corner of the ground right now. My challenge is to turn that around, let's be more ambitious.'

Dougie continues by saying that everybody should take pride in what we are doing well, such as developing future talent and he says many clubs envy our Academy set up and what we can do with players like Zaha, Clyne and others.

'Every game we face is apparently a 'tough' game, when maybe that's not the case. I need to make sure that when we play teams like Bolton or Cardiff people respect what we are and sometimes look on us as favourites.'

Freedman admits he's not surprised by that outlook given the financial worries we have had over the years, but he wants it to change, and change now.

Strong words definitely, and are we naturally pessimistic as a club now, or at least as pessimistic as Dougie is implying?

I'm not sure myself.
