Narrow Defeat To Spurs On Opening Day

Narrow Defeat To Spurs On Opening Day

Ian Holloway has admitted he was disappointed to see Palace not even pick up a point from our opening days Premiership game against Spurs.

Speaking to the Official Site following the loss via penalty, the gaffer explained.

'I'm a bit disappointed if I'm honest. We normally play a bit better and quicker and sharper than that with the ball. Did we get to grips with it quick enough? I was a bit disappointed with our lack of belief in our movement and our passing really.'

Holloway was also reasonably incensed with the penalty decision taken by the referee for a supposed Moxey handball. I guess replays will clear this one up later tonight, but Holloway said.

'It was a completely unbelievably dubious handball. Was it deliberate? I didn't think he had a chance to get out of the way. Yes his arms came up, but he was diving on the floor. You ask anyone, if you're falling, what happens to your arms? I don't think he had a chance in hell of getting out the way of it.'

Holloway added that the players now know the honeymoon is over, and we've earnt the right to test ourselves at this level, now we have to believe and earn the right to compete properly at this level.

He's also hoping that he'll have a stronger squad available for our next game, with the new signings having another few sessions under their belts and be fitter and stronger for it.
