'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Pulis We Stuck At It Well

Manager Tony Pulis has praised the work rate of the players after they booked Palace into the fourth round of the FA Cup for this season.

A two nil victory thanks to goals from Cameron Gayle and Marouane Chamakh put us into the fourth round draw which will take place in roughly and hour and a half, and Pulis told Crystal Palace FC that he was delighted with the way the team stuck to the task ahead of them, and then as the game drew on the strength with which we defended when Albion threw all they had at us.

'It was always going to be tough, the lads stuck at it really well and in the second half we defended with our lives at times. Overall we created some good opportunities and can take positives from the game in which we made some changes.'

Those changes of course included a first start of the season for youngster Hiram Boateng, and Pulis says he gave a good hour and a good account of himself which he was pleased with as it was a small opportunity for him to see how other players did with time on the pitch as he continues assessing his options during the January window.

He may not have got on the pitch but it was also nice to see the return of Paddy McCarthy on the bench.

Pulis admitted that Speroni was certainly called into action during the game, but that's what he's paid to do and more often than not you know he'll get to them so he wasn't overly panicking, as he thought it was a 'great team performance' but we did get the luck when we needed it, and he would've liked us to have made the game more comfortable by being more clinical, but that's something that will come with more confidence as results continue to go for us given the season we've had so far.

If anything really, the greatest disappointment for the FA Cup supporting gaffer was the low attendances, not just in our game, but around the country and he called on club CEO's and the FA to get together to agree initiatives to really help fans out at this time of year when the third round cycles through because he knows it's an expensive time of year for fans, and it's always reflected in attendance levels.
