'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Pulis Pleased As Punch With Win

Manager Tony Pulis has said he was delighted with the overall performance of the team against former club Stoke yesterday, and he too was delighted to see Jason Puncheon find himself on the score sheet following his penalty miss.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC the manager explained that despite everything that had been in the press following the penalty, he'd had no problems with Puncheon and he hadn't let it affect his focus or effort in training, so he had no concerns about throwing him straight back into the limelight in the game, and he was delighted with the way the player went at the task ahead of him.

'We had no problems with Puncheon, he's a missed a penalty albeit by a great distance, but you know that's what happens in life - you get ups and downs, especially being a professional footballer. The important thing for him was to get back on and do what he does best and that's to play football. He's a good player, he can do things and create chances and score goals. It's like riding a bike and falling off the first time. You make sure you get back on that bike quickly and start peddling again.'

As for the game itself and the overall performance, Pulis said that he was very pelased especially as it came on home soil and he knows we have to make our results good and consistent in front of the home crowd as it gives us a good basis to move forward from and he was obviously delighted also with the clean sheet, because obviously keeping them out at our end, means we can sneak the one goal and take the maximum return.

His only real disappointment was in the fact that we couldn't get that second goal in the last 45 minutes to make the game comfortable and give us that margin so we could relax and enjoy it a bit more. Obviously an extra one would've helped with goal difference as well, but the three points and consistency in level of performance are the main things for us at the moment, and hopefully everything will flow from that as the weeks progress.

Like Jedinak said in his after match interview, this isn't a turning point, or a defining moment, it's just another step in the right direction for the club, and that's how we have to treat it and then keep taking each game as it comes however cliched that sounds.
