Pulis - Lack Of Opportunities Cost Us

Manager Tony Pulis has admitted we were made to pay against Southampton through simply not creating enough goal scoring opportunities on the day.

The opposition took all three points at Selhurst Park following a solitary goal shortly before half time and having limited Southampton's attempts on target all game to only three, the major disappointment was in creating only one shot on target ourselves.

It was never going to be enough to take the points we wanted from the encounter unfortunately.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC following the game, overall Pulis wasn't too frustrated with the performance and he credited our work rate on the day, but the disappointment clearly was our lack of chance creation.

'I thought we did alright. We competed very well, but the disappointing thing was that we never created more opportunities. But they are a good side, they've got some good players. It was always going to be a tough game. In tough games, you need a break and we didn't get a break.'

Pulis says that annoyingly he was always confident that if we could get that breakthrough in the game we would've settled nicely and imposed ourselves on them much more and potentially gone on to win the game, but not getting that equaliser remained a constant thorn and stopped us really getting into a flow.

It's now Sunderland and Newcastle up next and the gaffer has called on the team to really show its mental strength in those matches to try and come away with all six points on offer, so we can put this disappointment behind us.

In other after match interviews the gaffer also referenced a few particular incidents during the game that could well have been the break we needed had the officials taken a different decision.

The one incident was where their defender Dejan Lovren brought down Yannick Bolasie, but the referee didn't deem him to be the last man, so only a yellow card and not a red and he then commented on the offside decisions against Glenn Murray and Joe Ledley, saying that having watched the replays, neither were offside and both were past the back four so those could've been moments that broke for us but it wasn't to be.
