Williams Wants Loan Extension

Midfielder Jonny Williams seems to be loving life at Portman Road at the moment, and he's more than up for a loan extension so he can continue playing first team games for Mick McCarthy's boys.

In quotes carried by Talksport Williams said that if upon the expiry of his one month loan spell he wasn't really going to figure in the first team for us, his preference would be to remain out on loan and continue getting games and further league experience.

Since moving to Ipswich at the very end of February, he has gone on to make two starts for them and two substitute appearances and the 20 year old has been impressing - notably taking praise in their recent two nil victory over promotion chasing Brighton.

His initial deal is due to expire later this week, but the loan window closes on Thursday, and he is hoping that a deal can be done until the end of the season, as he knows he can't expect to return and walk into the first team.

'I felt part of something special and part of a team again. If Palace aren't going to play me then I'd be happy to stay here and play. I've enjoyed my time so far and hopefully that can continue.'

Williams has another reason to want to stay, Ipswich have hopes of a play off push themselves and the Brighton result certainly helped keep that alive. With massive games for them against Derby and Nottingham Forest coming up, Williams is relishing the chance to play in those and then kick on further, because those two results will have a huge bearing on whether Ipswich are top six or not as the games tick down.

Having already experienced a play off push once, it's something Jonny wouldn't mind experiencing again if they can go all the way, and from a selfish point of view, the more games he gets, especially games of that magnitude and status for them, the better condition he'll return in so it's almost a no brainer for me really.

I believe even if we loan him out for the maximum allowed on an emergency loan - 93 days - we can still recall him if needed anyway as 28 days will have passed so short of him picking up an injury, it's risk free I think.
