Millen On Job & Arsenal

Millen On Job & Arsenal

It's a case of deja vu for Keith Millen as he again steps up from the assistant manager role to the caretaker position.

In less than a year he's now made that move twice, following the departures of both Ian Holloway and Tony Pulis, and having ruled himself out of the job last time where he admitted given our place in the Premiership the time wasn't right for him - we needed somebody with Premiership know how to turn our season around - the inevitable question has already been asked.

Is the time right now?

In quotes carried by The Mirror he said.

'I am sure there will be people interested in this job. The time wasn't right me last year but it's slightly different now. I have not had a chance to think about my situation. After tomorrow I will speak to the chairman, I've not had time to really think about it.'

Millen goes on to say that he loved his four games in charge last time round and he felt he got a good reception off the players, but it certainly wasn't a situation he was expecting to go into because he explains with everyone being frustrated at our transfer moves, there was no sign on the training pitch that a 'mutual consent' departure was on the cards because we obviously still had time left.

Turning conversations from his caretaker role, Millen was quick to talk about the impending Arsenal game but did find time to make a joke as he referenced a brief conversation with yesterday's new signing Martin Kelly.

'Martin got out of his car this morning and said to me 'I didn't think I trained that badly yesterday!'

As for the Arsenal game, he told the Croydon Advertiser that the focus will be on game management and ensuring that we hit Arsenal on the attack at the right time.

The aim is to keep our standards that we set from last season, respect Arsenal's threat but then make the moments we have in the match count for us.

'All we can do is make sure we put a performance in, work hard, and we will attack Arsenal when it's right.'

The aim is to be 100% right physically and mentally to ensure we get what we want from the game, and whilst we have lots we can build on from last season he's also mindful Arsenal have strengthened as well, so it's about being at our best with the workrate we showed last campaign.

He also gave no hints as to the starting line up, but joked the goalkeeper position will be between the two of them.
