Allardyce Gives Injury Update
Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce has been speaking ahead of the Hull City clash this weekend and he admitted he wouldn't know until Saturday what his options were on an injury front.
With Palace having a number of players on the sidelines with injuries ahead of Sunday's clash, James Tomkins and Yohan Cabaye are making good progress but Joel Ward suffered a broken nose against Manchester City and Andros Townsend has picked up an Achilles issue.
Scott Dann and Mamadou Sakho are down as long term injuries but Dann may make an appearance before the end of the year, however that would still be a 'calculated risk'.
Speaking to Crystal Palace FC as he met with the media this week to discuss the game, Allardyce explained.
'The more likely ones to be fit are James Tomkins and Yohan Cabaye but they are not training with us yet but are making good progress. That real decision probably won't happen until Saturday morning and then we will see what we have got available.'
Allardyce admitted it was hardly ideal preparation for the game but it was the situation so he had to deal with it.
'It is not ideal preparation if we do have to make some late changes but we will make the final decision on Saturday about who is going to go into battle with Hull City on Sunday. It is important we try and get as many players back fit as we can, Scott Dann has got a chance if it is worth risking, purely and simply if he is going to be fit from the injury, if not match fitness having not played since Chelsea but it may be a calculated risk.'
Sakho has been receiving treatment in France on his issue but the gaffer believes he is likely out for the campaign.
'He has been away in France. He is back here now but I think it will not be long enough for the recovery period to think he would be available for Old Trafford. I did not get my hopes up too much. Some players recover quicker than others. Maybe if he was a quick healer we might have speeded the process up.'
