Frustration & Delight At West Ham Point

Frustration & Delight At West Ham Point

James Tomkins has spoken of his frustration at Crystal Palace only taking a point from West Ham this weekend, but Wilfried Zaha knew it could be a very important point for the club come the end of the season.

With West Ham visiting Selhurst Park for the game, they took the two nil first half lead but goals from Luka Milivojevic and Zaha in the second period of the match gave us a two all draw but with the saves Joe Hart made, Tomkins knew it could well have been a win with a touch more luck.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC as he met with the media following the game, the former West Ham man reflected on his own opportunities to find the net.

'The first one I could have got a bit more power in it and the second one the goalkeeper managed to save it from close range. Joe Hart may have come under criticism recently but he made two good saves off me which is frustrating as I was looking to score against my old team but it didn`t quite happen but at least we got a result from the game in the end.'

Tomkins went on to say.

'After half time we came back with two good goals and it`s a bit of positive at the end of the day and we certainly didn`t deserve to lose the game that`s for sure. It was a good time to play West Ham after their midweek victory as there were some heavy legs out there and we could have got a win at the end of the day. I think if we had gone in at the break only one behind we may have come out and got more than a draw so it`s frustrating that the luck doesn`t go our way when we are in our current league position. We`ve had chances off the bar and the line plus a couple of other opportunities at the end but Wilf did what he does best and got one late on for us.'

In Wilf's own interview, he felt coming back in that fashion would certainly boost confidence moving forward.

'They scored two quality goals in the first half with two quick counter attacks but it was one of those days where we had to keep going. We just had to keep our confidence and do what we were doing because at half time the gaffer told us we were not playing that badly so we just had to keep at it and in the end managed to get back in the game.'

With fans in good voice with Palace's reaction, Zaha knew that any side visiting Selhurst this year had to deal with that if they wanted something from the match.

'I am sure everyone that comes to Crystal Palace know that the crowd is the 12th man for us, they help us massively throughout every game. The support here is crazy so having them on our side helps us so much in the game and today we all saw that again.'

With Wilf's leveller coming in the 97th minute, he went on to say.

'It was beginning to look impossible to beat him as it seemed regardless of how many shots we had at goal this afternoon he was saving them for fun. We did in the end though and managed to get a very important point for us. I just managed to secure the ball to get a shot at goal which no one was expecting so when I saw it roll into the net I just didn`t know what to do, Andros was literally dragging me down to start the celebrations and it was a great feeling.'

He ended by saying that taking a point in that fashion certainly felt like a win.

'Yes it does because every match is important and so is every point so us managing to get the one point is amazing.'
