Palace Duo Out After Manchester City

Palace Duo Out After Manchester City

Crystal Palace gaffer Roy Hodgson has confirmed that Scott Dann and Jason Puncheon will now miss the remainder of the 2017/18 season following injuries against Manchester City.

Both players have sustained 'serious' cruciate knee ligament problems following separate tackles on Kevin de Bruyne in the New Year's Eve fixture at Selhurst Park against Pep Guardiola's boys.

Having taken a very important point and ended their winning streak, Dann was stretchered off after only 20 minutes, and Puncheon sustained his injury late on in stoppage time.

Speaking to the BBC yesterday, Hodgson explained.

'We won't see them again this season and they may not be ready for the start of next season. They'll both see a specialist and likely undergo surgery once the swelling goes. They are very serious injuries.'

With the January window now open, Hodgson admitted the festive period have stretched the squad to the 'absolute limit' and with Dann and Puncheon ruled out for the remainder of the campaign, January strengthening is even more important.

'The chairman and directors are keen to improve our squad to ensure we have what we need. Hopefully our performances have shown that if we get that backing it'll make us even stronger in this run-in.'
