Hennessey In Team Of The Week (16/1/18)
Crystal Palace are represented in the latest Premier League team of the week that has been selected by BBC pundit Garth Crooks.
Actually Garth is now down as a 'Football Analyst' these days, a posh term for a pundit then!
The performance by goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey in the one nil victory over Burnley at the weekend at Selhurst Park was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other, in the opinion of the former Spurs striker anyway, most impressive performers in the topflight over the latest weekend.
I think we'll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why Crooks, we'll also not argue with it, selected Hennessey as part of his team but explaining his choice he told the BBC.
'This was a very interesting week for goalkeepers. Arsenal's Petr Cech and Manchester City's Ederson both conceded goals that cost their teams dearly. Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois and West Brom's Ben Foster both kept clean sheets but it was the performance by Wayne Hennessey against a dangerous Burnley that impressed me the most. The Wales international's form over the past few weeks has been impressive at a very difficult time under Roy Hodgson. The Eagles were in desperate need of points and low in confidence. Hennessey has shown tremendous courage throughout that period and kept goal during a very nervy time for Palace. He now looks like he's becoming part of a solid unit again, keeping the occasional clean sheet.'
It's always good to see the club represented in this way, and well played to Hennessey for his recognition, but the most important thing about the weekend was of course the win.
