Benfica Midfielder Arrives On Loan
Crystal Palace have this afternoon confirmed the arrival of Swedish Under 21 international midfielder Erdal Rakip on a loan spell from Benfica.
The 21 year old central midfielder comes in on a deal until the end of the current season and he made the switch to the Portuguese capital from Malmo earlier this month having come through their Academy.
Having made his debut back in 2013, he left Malmo with 120 games to his name and having played his part in their dominance of Swedish football as he picked up four Allsvenskan winners medals from his five seasons at first team level, and he's also taken in 16 Champions League ties.
With Benfica having signed him this window I would guess chances of a buy deal come the summer would be incredibly slim.
Speaking to Crystal Palace FC after penning his terms, Rakip explained.
'I believe this is a league that suits me and my way of playing. It`s fast-paced and physically intense, and I`m a classic, balanced number 6; a box-to-box player who run up and down the field. I hope to adapt quickly in order to help the team and show my qualities - I have been training since the season ended and I feel fit and ready to play straight away.'
With Roy Hodgson's spell at Malmo during the 1980's where he lifted five straight titles himself, Rakip is well aware of his new manager.
'It will be an honour playing for Roy. He is a legend in Malmö and everyone know who he is. Crystal Palace is a fantastic club with a lot of history that plays entertaining football, and was the best option for my development and my career at this stage. It feels amazing arriving to the best league in the world and to be part of a great team.'
