No Joy for Roy - Crystal Palace v Manchester United (5/3/18)

No Joy for Roy - Crystal Palace v Manchester United (5/3/18)

Following today's clash between Crystal Palace and Manchester United, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Crystal Palace hosted Manchester United at Selhurst Park for an 8pm kick off on Monday March 5, with the visitors taking a late three two victory.

Palace couldn't have been more pleased with their start to the game and the first half as goals from Andros Townsend and Patrick van Aanholt gave them a two nil lead at half time. Manchester United hit back through Chris Smalling ten minutes after the restart and Romelu Lukaku tied the game up with 14 minutes remaining in normal time.

Palace hearts were broken in stoppage time however as Nemanja Matic hit the winner.

Crystal Palace:

Hennessey, Wan-Bissaka, Kelly, Tomkins, van Aanholt, Townsend, McArthur, Milivojevic, Schlupp (Riedewald 80), Benteke, Sorloth.

Lee Chung-yong, Cavalieri, Souare, Delaney, Rakip, Jach.

Man Utd:

de Gea, A Valencia (Shaw 67), Smalling, Lindelof, Young (Mata 67), McTominay (Rashford 45), Matic, Pogba, Sanchez, R Lukaku, Lingard.

Bailly, Carrick, Darmian, Castro Pereira.

Speaking to the BBC's cameras a short time after match day referee Neil Swarbrick blew the final whistle, Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson explained.

'It's been a Groundhog Day moment. We once again go away with no points and like the game against Tottenham - I thought we deserved something. I was expecting to come away with one point but once again it is nothing and I feel devastated for the players. We took the game to Manchester United. If we had drawn the game, I don't think anyone - Jose included - would have said it was a scandal.'

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho in his comparative interview explained.

'I always believe we can win. I will be like that until my last day. You always need that little bit of luck to win a match in the last few minutes. Sometimes the winner is the one who deserves the congratulations but I think Roy Hodgson did everything right.'
