Palace slipped to another defeat as Sunderland ended a run of games without a win on a Monday night, that dated back to April 2002 and stood at 20-games, with a 3-1 win at Selhurst Park.

Things could, and probably should, have been different inside a minute when Santiago Vergini brought down Fraizer Campbell, who was going through. Not only should it have been a penalty Sunderland could well have gone down to 10-men after just 30-seconds.

Nothing was given!

Steven Fletcher (31) headed Sunderland into a half time lead when Patrick van Aanholt beat the offside trap to deliver for the striker.

Palace had another penalty appeal, when Van Aanholt clumsily brought down Wilfried Zaha but Phil Dowd was having none of it.

An incredible 10th own goal since August 2013, which is more than any one players has managed individually in that period, drew Palace level after the break when Wes Brown (55) turned the ball into his own net as he attempted to clear from Campbell's backheel.

Jordi Gomez (79) put Sunderland ahead again late on with our chances of getting anything dealt a massive blow when captain Mile Jedinak was sent off for collecting his second yellow card, after a run in with Gomez.

Sunderland sealed a three-one win in injury-time when Fletcher (90) added his second.
