Palace end season on High

Colchester claimed a top-ten finish this term and although the campaign ended with a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, Williams was not down.

A place in the play-offs was a possibility going into the final few weeks of the season and Williams will look to build on that next year.

'The season ended how it started for us - with a defeat,' he said.

'But everyone in our squad should be proud of what they have done this season because it's been tough for us.

'Now we'll be looking to see what we can achieve next season.'

Palace manager Peter Taylor will also be looking for better next season after finishing 12th this term, and you can bet it will have to be an automatic spot if Simon Jordan gets his views across.

Goals from James Scowcroft and Ben Watson ensured The Eagles ended on a positive note at Layer Road on Sunday.

'It was nice to finish the season so well,' Taylor added.

'We didn't finish as high as we'd have liked to but you live and learn.

'We've tightened up a bit over the last two games but Colchester have had a better season than us on a tighter budget.'

A poor season by your standards after reaching the play offs last season.

You may of ended one game on a heigh, but have to agree a very poor finish by your standards. Should have at least got yourselves into a play off spot, but also has been a difficult year. Better things next season I hope
